Chapter Study Guides

Chapter Study Guides are designed to help you identify the key concepts and prepare for the exams.  The Chapter Study Guides are not required but I strongly recommend that you do the Chapter Study Guides. You can earn bonus points if you do the Chapter Study Guides! These points are added to the corresponding chapter's test score.

In order to receive the bonus points for the Chapter Study Guide, you will need to turn in the Chapter Study Guide either before or on the day that we cover the chapter in class.  This means you must read the chapter before I cover the material in class!  I know from experience that students who do the Chapter Study Guides receive better grades in the class.  These students generally earn an “A” in the class.  This should not surprise you.  It is simply a function of “time on task” and coming to class prepared for the lecture.

Students who do the Chapter Study Guides are familiar with the topic(s) that will be covered in the lecture.  If you read something in the text book while doing the study guides and don't understand the subject, then you can ask a question during the lecture to clarify the subject.  By doing the Chapter Study Guides, you will now be prepared to participate in the class.  This will make the classroom experience more rewarding for everybody, both the instructor and the students! --- Study Guides

Our Mission: Single-Payer National Health Program

The U.S. spends twice as much as other industrialized nations on health care, $8,160 per capita. Yet our system performs poorly in comparison and still leaves 50.7 million without health coverage and millions more inadequately covered.

Greg Silver, MD

This is because private insurance bureaucracy and paperwork consume one-third (31 percent) of every health care dollar. Streamlining payment through a single nonprofit payer would save more than $400 billion per year, enough to provide comprehensive, high-quality coverage for all Americans. Sick Around the World / FrontLine

"In Sick Around the World, Frontline teams up with veteran Washington Post foreign correspondent T.R. Reid to find out how five other capitalist democracies --(United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Taiwan and Switzerland) -- deliver health care, and what the United States might learn from their successes and their failures." April 15, 2008   This is a must see for anyone interested in health care.
